Workshops

We run several bonsai training workshops throughout the year. If you'd like to attend one of our bonsai courses which are designed around our customer’s requirements, just get in touch and we can arrange either a one to one workshop or you can attend one of our forthcoming workshops. Classes are run for the bonsai novice through to the specialist.

As space is limited to 8 per workshop, early booking is advised. Workshop prices are £50 per person, 10am - 4pm at our garden centre near York (Vertigrow). Payment in full is required at the time of booking. For further information, email richard@northofenglandbonsai.com.

What can I learn at a bonsai workshop?

Richard Reah learned his bonsai craft in the company of Louis Hawksby known to some as "Yorkshire's Mr Bonsai". Louis started on the bonsai road at the age of about seven and on retirement passed on his business to Richard knowing that he was leaving it in capable hands. Nevertheless Richard has had to learn his craft over a number of years and benefitted from many hours of bonsai tuition. Richard regularly visits Flower Shows in England and Scotland. To get some idea of how well Richard's displays are received at the shows, see his latest awards won as featured on the home page of the website.

At our Bonsai Workshops you will learn about different types of trees, the most suitable types of tree for bonsai and styles of bonsai trees. The bonsai pots, potting medium, how to water and where to keep your bonsai will be discussed. Repotting bonsai trees will take place at the appropriate time of year.

The tantalising part of the bonsai workshop experience though is styling and creating your own bonsai, restyling where required, wiring your tree to the desired shape and learning when and how to trim. At the end of the day you will leave the workshop with the confidence and knowledge of how to treat your bonsai, keeping it healthy throughout the year.

Nursery workshops

9am - 12 noon One to one session - £80 per session
1pm - 4pm One to one session - £80 per session
Full day: 10am - 4pm

Group session - £50 per session (group)
One to one session - £150 per session (individual)
*please bring your own lunch

Home visits

Home visits are available at £40 per hour plus a mileage (45p per mile in the car /  £1.50 per mile in the truck). Travelling time £15 per hour. To organise a nursery workshop or home visit, please contact Richard on 07792 121913.

Participants are invited to bring their own tools; trees, wire, compost and all other equipment may be purchased on the day. Tea and coffee will be available. You are reminded that you participate AT YOUR OWN RISK.
